Sacramento Child Advocates, Inc. acts as the advocate, the voice, for childrenSCA's Board of Directors is wholly volunteer body.  The members of the Board set policy and keep the organization focused on its mission.

Mike Ashen, Chairperson
Ashen Company, Ltd., Partner
Mr. Ashen and his wife built their family of four children through adoption. Mr. Ashen is a past President and Past Active Life Member of the Active 20-30 Club Sacramento No. 1, whose motto is “A man never stands so tall as when he kneels to help a child.”  Mr. Ashen is a current Board member for the Loveall Foundation for Children and a past Board member of Fairytale Town. Mr. Ashen is in business with his three brothers, where they market and manage dental offices.

Eric Olsen, CPA, Vice Chairperson
Ray Stone Incorporated, Vice President of Finance and Risk Management
Mr. Olsen is responsible for the integrity of the financial reporting for RSI’s portfolio of real estate assets and for RSI’s management information systems. Mr. Olsen has served on the boards of directors of a number of community organizations.

Nora Makarczyk, Treasurer
Ms. Makarczyk is an Internal Auditor at Apple, Inc. in Elk Grove, CA. She is a native Californian but has traveled and lived throughout the world. However, she has chosen to plant her roots in Sacramento because it is a wonderful community in which to raise her family. As a mother of two wonderful boys, Ms. Makarczyk has a concern about the welfare of all children within the Sacramento dependency system.  She is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Polytechnic University with a degree in Agricultural Business and a graduate of Columbia University with a Masters in International Affairs. From 1993-1995 she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Latvia.

Robert Buccola, Esq, Board Member

Mr. Buccola is an attorney whose practice area includes personal injury and wrongful death cases. Mr. Buccola is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. As a native of Sacramento and a father, Mr. Buccola has a particular concern about the educational opportunities available to children in the dependency system. He has endowed the Robert A. Buccola Educational Attorney position at SCA.

Kasey Cotulla, Board Member
Kasey is a partner and vice president at Delta Web Printing. He serves on the board of Lilliput Children’s Services and has been a foster child mentor through the Wonder, Inc program.  He was introduced to SCA through the MetroChamber Leadership Sacramento program.  Kasey is drawn to serve SCA by their mission of protecting the interests of children who have no champion.  Mr. Cotulla is a lifelong resident of Sacramento County and lives in the city with his wife and two children.

Jamie Errecart, Esq, Board Member
Ms. Errecart is an attorney with McDonough Holland & Allen PC where she advises and represents corporations, individuals, and public entities in litigation matters. Her practice focuses on complex civil litigation as well as commercial and business disputes.  In addition to various local Bar Associations, Ms. Errecart is a Board Member of the Women Lawyers of Sacramento and a member of California Women Lawyers.

Richie Fernandez, Board Member
Richie is the Financial Services Manager of the Sacramento office of Mechanics Bank located at Alta Arden and Howe.  He was born and raised in Southern California and upon graduating from UC Davis decided to make Sacramento his permanent home.  Richie was a member of the Rotary International Group Study exchange mission to Austria in 2008, is Metro Chamber Leadership Sacramento Alumni, and is a current member of the Rotary Club of East Sacramento to keep him active in the community.  He enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer, and the live arts.  Being married to a first grade teacher has opened Richie’s eyes and heart to the importance of the future generation and hopes to help out SCA one child at a time.

Jennifer Hartman King, Board Member
Jennifer Hartman King is an attorney with Downey Brand LLP.  Her practice focuses on environmental law, including complex multi-party litigation, administrative enforcement defense, compliance counseling, and transactional matters.  Her clients include both public and private entities.  She is a former Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to Governor Gray Davis.  Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from UC Davis and then returned to the Sacramento area after earning her law degree from UCLA.  Her passion for the concerns of children arises from the importance to her of her two precious sons.

Malyna Phan, Board Member
Ms. Phan is a Branch Manager for Wells Fargo Bank.  She is an immigrant from Vietnam, raised in Stockton, CA.  Her family arrived in the United States in June of 1980.  In May of 2003, she graduated from San Jose State with a bachelor degree in Business Management.  She has been with Wells Fargo collectively for 6 years supporting in various positions and, since August of 2007, is a Store Manager at the Micron Office.  Her career objectives are to help develop her team members to get them to the desired career paths and to help her customers succeed financial.  As a member of the Board of SCA,
Ms. Phan hopes to play a part in the community that Wells Fargo served and be able to lend support, whether through volunteer work or economic means to SCA and the clients we represent. 

Greg Secor, Board Member
Greg is an associate at Stafford King Weise Architects in downtown Sacramento and 2008 graduate of the Metro Chamber’s Leadership Sacramento class. A LEED-certified architect with specialties in civic and higher education architecture—as well as interior architecture and environmental design—Greg received his master’s degree from the University of Oregon and his construction experience from working on projects with his father, a former Child Protective Services social worker. Greg seeks to contribute to the success and growth of the greater Sacramento area and help improve the lives of others.

David Sobon, Board Member
David is a partner in Maximum Benefit Auctions.  He has consulted with hundreds of foundations, schools, non profits and service groups around the country to help them achieve their fundraising goals.  David's 20 years of charity fundraising experience and event planning has given him the opportunity to work organizations like American Leadership Foundation, Susan G Komen , The American Heart assoc. , Leukemia Lymphoma Society,  Sacramento Library Foundation and the Rainbow chamber of commerce. He is member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP),and the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) . David is one of only a handful of Benefit Auction Specialists (BAS) in the United States. A gourmet chef and a wine aficionado, David has experience as a wine judge and is a member of the American Sommelier Association.

Dawn Suits, Board Member
Dawn, with 10+ years of technical IT experience, is a Product Specialist with Quest Technology for Business.  After graduating from the University of Southern California with an International Relations Degree, Dawn has made her way back to her home town of Sacramento.  While in Southern California Dawn has dedicated her time to volunteering and continues her community involvement and commitment with SCA.
